Policy Advocacy

The Homeownership Coalition works with tribal, state, and federal policymakers to advocate for policies and initiatives that support and advance Tribal homeownership. By engaging in policy research, community consultation, and direct advocacy, the Coalition ensures that the unique needs of Native communities are represented in housing legislation and program design. This includes addressing barriers such as access to mortgage financing on trust land, supporting the development of culturally responsive lending products, and promoting long-term investments in sustainable housing. Through these efforts, the Coalition seeks to influence systemic change that creates pathways for more Native families to achieve the dream of homeownership while strengthening Tribal sovereignty and community well-being.

Research and Development

THOCSW is dedicated to advancing homeownership opportunities on tribal trust lands. Through research and development, THOCSW identifies barriers and creates innovative strategies that expand access to financing and housing options for Native families. In addition to coordinating the sale and purchase of homes on leasehold land, the coalition also pursues the development of new housing projects that promote safe, sustainable, and culturally grounded communities.
